My Tax Code has Changed

Modified on Mon, 29 Apr, 2024 at 9:37 AM

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) periodically reviews tax codes to ensure they reflect changes in your circumstances, such as changes in income, benefits, pensions, or tax allowances.

There are a number of reasons as to why your tax code may have changed:

  1. Changes in income: If your income has changed, either through a pay rise, a new job, or a change in benefits, your tax code may be adjusted to reflect this.
  2. Tax allowances: Changes to tax allowances, such as the personal allowance or the marriage allowance, can affect your tax code.
  3. Changes in circumstances: Changes in your personal circumstances, such as getting married, starting to receive a company car, or receiving taxable benefits, can lead to adjustments in your tax code.
  4. Coding errors: Sometimes, mistakes can occur in calculating your tax code, leading to adjustments to correct these errors.

Unfortunately, HMRC directly provides your tax code to us as your employer, and this isn't something we are able to control.

As we are unable to contact HMRC on your behalf, you are required to contact them directly, and request that your tax code is investigated.
