M Group has introduced a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy, effective from 5 January 2026, to support the health, safety, and wellbeing of all colleagues, suppliers, and subcontractors under our supervision and control. This policy acknowledges the risks that drugs and alcohol pose to a safe working environment and reinforces our commitment to maintaining a focused and supportive workplace across all roles, including office-based staff and anyone working on or visiting sites.
To support this commitment, M Group now conducts random drug and alcohol testing on at least 20% of the workforce each year. All new starters are included in the random testing pool, and HGV drivers are subject to mandatory testing during their probation period. Testing may also be carried out where there is cause for concern, following workplace incidents or near misses, and as part of any required medical checks. Any refusal to participate in testing, or leaving after being notified, will be treated as a breach of policy and managed through the disciplinary process.
M Group recognises that substance dependency can be a health issue, and confidential support is available to anyone seeking help prior to being selected for testing. Colleagues are encouraged to speak up if they are struggling or if they notice unsafe behaviour. For guidance or further information, please contact your local SHEQ or People team.
